FPV drone racing is a natural extension of STEM education, requiring confluence of knowledge in the areas of computers, engineering, problem solving and fine motor skills.  Student pilots are required to research and build their own drones, inspiring them to get creative and think conceptually.

In March of 2016 the New York City Drone Film Festival and the Liberty Science Center partnered for the Day of Drones which included an FPV Drone Racing experience.  Students, spectators, and their families has the opportunity to visit the Racer’s Pit where the drones were built, and enjoyed the thrill of experiencing the race through VR goggles and watching in real time.   The Liberty Cup is our opportunity to take this experience to the next level.
